On 14 and 15 October 2025, the LIFE Platform event took place in Brussels, focusing on the recently published European Water Resilience Strategy. The event brought together more than 100 experts, project leaders and other stakeholders to discuss the critical state of European river basins and explore solutions.
More specifically, the event focused on the implementation of River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs) through LIFE Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs). The meeting was organised by CINEA and co-hosted by the LIFE BELINI project and the Flemish Environment Agency (VMM).
Strengthening cooperation
During the meeting, experiences were shared and the main challenges and solutions were discussed. These types of exchange moments contribute to stronger cooperation between European countries to improve and align water management strategies.
Participants emphasised the importance of nature-based solutions (NBS), restoring hydrological regimes and removing fish migration bottlenecks and historical pollution. Although many solutions are promising, challenges remain, such as property conflicts and the involvement of farmers.
The event demonstrated that LIFE plays a crucial role in supporting river basin management across Europe.
