This spring, Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia are once again putting water centre stage. Local authorities, nature associations and schools are organising numerous activities, from guided nature walks along rivers and ponds to workshops on rainwater harvesting and bathing water quality. Together, they are raising interregional awareness of water issues.
World Water Day takes centre stage

This timing is, of course, not arbitrary. Since 1993, the United Nations has celebrated World Water Day on 22 March, emphasising the importance of fresh water. One of the main objectives of this day is to support the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6: clean water and sanitation for all by 2030. Traditionally, World Water Day on 22 March is therefore the central day around which many water awareness activities are organised.
This year is no different. In Flanders, Water Week runs from 21 to 29 March, in Brussels there are the Brussels Water Days from 16 to 22 March, and in Wallonia there are the Journées Wallonnes de l’eau from 14 to 29 March 2026.
So be sure to keep an eye on the various websites for activities in your area.
