Onder een stralende Dankzij deze vistrap kunnen vissen nu stroomopwaarts zwemmen rond de stuw en de boven- en zijlopen van de Dijle bereiken om er te paaien en op te groeien. Bij een eerste test werden al verschillende vissoorten aangetroffen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ter hoogte van het Sluispark zorgt de stuw op de vierde Dijlearm ervoor dat het water in de Dijle hoog genoeg staat om het kanaal te voeden. Daardoor ontstaat er een niveauverschil van meer dan anderhalve meter tussen het waterpeil op- en afwaarts van de stuw. Hierdoor kunnen de vissen niet meer verder stroomopwaarts zwemmen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vissen vinden de weg al<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Om dit knelpunt voor vismigratie op te lossen bouwde de Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij een vistrap rond de stuw met de steun van het LIFE Belini project. Deze vistrap splitst het onoverbrugbare hoogteverschil op in 23 kleinere stapjes van 7 cm die de vissen wel kunnen opzwemmen. In de smalle openingen tussen de grote stapstenen, banen de verschillende vissoorten zich een weg naar boven.<\/p>\n<p>Uit een eerste onderzoek blijkt dat al minstens 8 vissoorten de vistrap al gebruiken of zich erin gevestigd hebben. Het gaat om typische beekvissen met een voorkeur voor stromend water, zoals o.a. kopvoorn en serpeling. Maar bijzonder was ook de aanwezigheid twee gestippelde alvers. Dit visje komt vooral voor in snelstromende zijlopen van de Maas, zoals Semois, Lesse en Ourthe, maar voelt zich ook al thuis in het kolkende water van deze met rotsen bekleedde vistrap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beleefbare trap<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Voor het ontwerp van de vistrap werd bewust gekozen voor een vistrap die niet alleen boeiend is voor de vissen, maar ook voor de bezoekers van het Sluispark. Via stapstenen, kan men in de vistrap rondwandelen of doorsteken. Zo kan men dichter bij het water komen, en dit beter ervaren.
